Portraits

I find that visuals which allow you to see into the eyes of humans can act as a catalyst for connection and story-telling. Below are some portraits I have digitally painted to support friends, families and movements.

The family of the late Hajj Suleiman requested a portrait of their beloved after Israeli forces ran him over while he was protesting a military invasion into his village. After twelve days in the hospital, he succumbed to his injuries, and joined the countless Palestinians who have died at the hands of the occupation forces.

Hajj Al Suleiman

A Prayer for Release

Created for and published in Geez Magazine’s Ancestors issue.

Artist’s statement:

Witnessing the raw consciousness of my 106 year old Swedish grandma, Miriam Manfred, has been a journey and a gift. While lucid in reality much of the time, memories of the past have been gently working their way into the fabric of her present mind. The veil between this world and the great mystery to come is fraying at the edges and the creases. This piece was created as an imaginative exploration of her mind’s wanderings and an act of prayer, hope and encouragement to whatever is holding onto her- and vice versa- that they may let one another go.
